Q:Hi! Any news about chap. 14? Thanks!
I have raw chapter all edited, but I can’t seem to reach my translator. What’s worse, I’m staying overtime at work this week, so I won’t be able to search for a substitute until Friday. Worst comes to worst, chapters 14 and 15 will be released together.
New Drug&Drop translator
As you might have noticed, I’ve been recently reblogging xxxHolic Rei scanlations made by wonderful Kimberley. She worked on many of our D&D releases in the past and starting from this month she will be regular translator for upcoming D&D chapters. Be sure to send a lot of love her way.
Disclaimer: this was done whilst moderately hungover & exhausted, also I’ve not read all of xxxHOLiC in Japanese before so there might be discrepancies in terminology etc. but I guess I’ve done all I can & hopefully it’s turned out as okay as it ever could do, given?
This scanlation was done by Kimberley, who translated most of recent Drug&Drop chapters we released, so I can assure you that the quality of this translation is top-notch.
First some important news:
- First volume of D&D was released on February 4th. Here’s the cover. Unfortunately, there was no extra chapter in it, just additional color page, that you can see here.
- CLAMP has made D&D themed Valentine picture, you can see it here.
- D&D will be on break for a month, because CLAMP’s resuming their previous work, xxxHolic in Young Magazine starting March 4th. I wish I could pick it up, but since it will be released weekly, I would need at least two additional editors experienced with magazine scans and at least one very experienced translator, because xxxHolic is pretty difficult to read and translate.
- Speaking of staff deficiency, WE’RE IN NEED OF TRANSLATOR(s). Because of Hineko’s work and studies she’s simply too busy to handle it anymore. I’ve prepared a test. The archive contains what I usually provide our translators with - chapter script and edited raw pages. There’s no big philosophy here - translate it to the best of your ability and send it over to me (hydreg at gmail dot com). I hope to find a new translator before next chapter is out in two months. You’ll have to able to translate given chapter within maximum one week.

ETA: Fixed the links.
Q:I'm just curious, the 11th chapter of Drug & Drop came out late December right? So I was just wondering if that was something that is in the work of being translated & edited right now or not. I hope I don't sound pushy or anything, after all, it's only out of kindness that you guys do this. I'm just grateful to be able to read any portion of Drug & Drop! So thank you so much for the work you guys do!
Okay, it’s time to address the issue, though I hoped it wouldn’t come to this. The problem is translation. Hineko, our main translator is down with kidney inflammation plus as a PhD student in the middle of midterm exams she has to prepare for her own exams, but also plan exams for her students, so she’s kind of low on time. Despite that, she kindly translated the chapter, albeit a few days later than usually. However, there are a few lines that need to be proofread and possibly retranslated. That’s why the script is currently being reviewed by our second translator, Kim. She should have it done by the end of the week, and since pages are edited, I should have the chapter out the same day I receive the translation. I just really don’t want the situation from chapter 5 (a few lines were translated wrong because of lack of proofreading and a whole chapter had to be fixed and reuploaded) happen again.
And for those who think I should just tell both of translators to hurry up: absolutely not happening. They’re not my employees, they have their own affairs, they’re actually doing me a favor by providing the translation. I can ask for extra help from others, if they’re willing to provide it, but I won’t tell them to hurry up.
That being said, I hope to have the chapter out this weekend, so don’t worry, we’re not dropping the project or anything.
